about the

Enjoyable Plate

Are you tired of the diet cycle and feeling like you are not good enough as you are? We can help.

The Enjoyable Plate is passionate about helping women heal their relationship with food and their body through nutrition and body image counseling, so you can spend more time on all the things you love and less time worrying about how you look and what you eat. Because changing your appearance will not make you a more deserving, lovable person - you are worthy of love, self-respect, kindness and happiness as you are.

Our Philosophy

Dieting is harmful both emotionally and physically. Restriction and deprivation can lead to weight cycling and weight gain, as well as make us obsess over food and lead to disordered eating behaviors. It can cause us to feel isolated from our friends and family. We are so hyper-focused on what we eat and how much we exercise that we miss out on other life opportunities. But it is never too late to change that.

We each have our own story of how we got to where we are today, and together we can unpack yours. Using the principles of intuitive eating, we will help you reconnect with your body’s own internal hunger cues, rebuild your self-trust, and improve your body acceptance. Through a judgment-free space that focuses on self-compassion and curiosity, we can begin to understand the why's behind your thoughts and beliefs so you can truly understand what you value.

what is

Intuitive Eating?

Intuitive eating is an eating style that promotes a healthy attitude toward food and body image. Intuitive eating is about trusting yourself to make choices around food that feels good in your body, without judgment and without influence from diet culture. The philosophy rejects traditional weight-loss diets that promote restriction and deprivation of any type. It’s about re-learning to eat outside of the diet mentality, moving away from external cues like food rules and restrictions, and focusing on your internal cues like hunger, fullness and satisfaction.

INTUITIVE EATING:

  • Is a personal process that honors both physical and mental health

  • Focuses on self-compassion and curiosity without judgment

  • Will tune you inward to honor your hunger and fullness

  • Helps you learn to cope with emotions and respect your body

  • Focuses on the satisfaction of food and the eating experience

Meet Rebecca

I am a Registered Dietitian, but first and foremost, I am a woman who, like many others, has struggled with my own body image. Growing up as a young girl in our society, it seemed like there was an unspoken code that your outward appearance made you more or less worthy as a person. So when I gained weight after college and felt shame around my body for changing, I did what everyone did - I went on a diet.

And somehow that point system was drilled into my brain and loosely followed for years - even as I went back to school to become a dietitian. Whether I said it out loud or even admitted it to myself, I followed rigid food rules. Even though I was no longer on a “diet”, those rules were there and I weighed myself regularly to make sure I was compliant.

It was not until I pursued intuitive eating on a personal level that I realized just how far from “healthy” I really was. Reconnecting with my own internal cues helped me to not only physically feel better and rid myself of rigid food rules, but it also taught me about self-compassion and what it meant to really respect my body. Although I now have a very balanced relationship with food, I still have days when I struggle with my own body image especially watching my body change after having children. It is a relationship that I work on continuously - and I know that it is completely normal that it has its ups and downs.

As a mom of 3 young children, I am passionate about helping women and their families. I do not want my children to be plagued by the idea that their weight has anything to do with their value as a person. I want them to grow up in a world where it is understood that their bodies will (and are meant to) change. It has been my goal to raise them as intuitive eaters and with body positive parenting. I want food to be joyful for them and not ridden with shame or guilt.

I like how the narrative is finally changing in our society, and it is my mission to continue to change it - for me, for you, and for our children.
